Linda and I received an invitation in the mail today . . . . . actually . . . . it was a pre invitation to expect the invitation. That got me thinking about my vacations. Don’t know why . . . it just did.
Let’s say . . . . . for example . . . . we would like to visit Rome for a couple of days. We . . . . . like everyone else . . . . would like to get the most from our vacation, so . . . . . to make the best of the trip, we will take a cruise . . . . . or a “pre” . . . . . from London which ends in Rome. As long as we are doing that, we decide to experience London, so we fly in a day early . . . . . . . or a “pre” to the pre of the 2 day trip to Rome. However, we would like to enjoy the day we have in London, so . . . . . with the overnight flight and all . . . . we need to arrange a “pre” to the pre day to the pre cruise of the 2 day trip to Rome. Then we realize how it would be better to arrive a day early to the Atlanta airport . . . . to be on time for the flight . . . . so, we arrange a “pre” at the airport so we would be able to rest during the pre of the pre to visit London prior to the pre cruise to enjoy the 2 day trip to Rome. But, that’s not the end of it. Knowing how much we would enjoy Rome, we need . . . . . . after a couple of busy days . . . . . to have a “post” after the 2 day trip to Rome. This way we would be relaxed for our return. But wait . . . . . . . . . there’s more (in the words of late night TV) . . . . . . . . . after our arrival back to the Atlanta airport . . . . . . . we will take the hotel shuttle to where our trip began . . . . . and take a “post” (Atlanta Airport) after the post (Rome Airport) . . . so that we will be rested upon returning home after our 2 day trip to Rome. So, as things work themselves out . . . . .Our 2 day vacation involves:A 12 day pre (cruise)A 1 day pre (London) to the pre (cruise)A 1 day pre (rest) to the pre (London) of the pre (cruise)And a 1 day pre (Atlanta) of the pre (rest) to the pre (London)of the pre (cruise)Then . . . . the 2 day quick get-a-away to Rome. . . . followed by:A 1 day “post” (Rome Airport) after our 2 day quick-get-awayAnd a 1 day “post” (Atlanta Airport) for rest . . . . . and get“free hotel parking with a 2 night stay” . . . . beforeour return to our home.In closing. The next time you are looking for a quick trip with a little imagination . . . . . . . . . . and free parking . . . . . . give us a call . . . . . . . and we will work out the details for a memorable (and restful) 2 day trip.Should these things change your life?

I was thinking about major events that have happened during the past 20 years. I am not taking the Swine Flu lightly, but I started thinking about some of the reasons why people have cancelled their trips in the past.
Through the years we have had guests cancel their travel (in no certain order) for . . . . . . Hurricane Andrew . . . . El Nino . . . . . Nor’easter Storms . . . . . Tsunamis . . . . . Rogue Waves . . . . . Hurricane Katrina . . . . . Volcanoes . . . . . Water Spouts . . . and the Bermuda Triangle. We have also had news events such as . . . . . Tour Bus Accidents . . . . Suicides . . . . . . Y2K . . . . The Millennium . . . . . . The Gulf Wars . . . . . . Earthquakes . . . . And Global Warming. There have been fears of . . . . . Piracy . . . . Drug Wars . . . . Gang Wars . . . . . Abductions . . . . Kidnapping . . . . . Labor Strikes . . . . . . And Politics. Some health reasons have been . . . . . . The Norwalk Virus . . . . . Bird Flu . . . . . . . Asian Flu . . . . . Legionnaires Disease . . . . . . Killer Bees . . . . And now the Swine Flu. Every one of these is a valid concern, and you should be . . . . . well, concerned. But should these things change your life? Take a look at http://flutracker.rhizalabs.com (copy and paste) and let me know what you think. Particularly, look at Cancun or Cozumel, Mexico . . . . . not a single case as of this writing (according to the map) . . . . . . and consider the people that make their living on tourism. Cozumel, alone brings in 12 to 15 thousand tourists per day which spend - - - - I don’t know how much money . . . . . but, it’s a lot. And that is just 1 of the 8 major Mexican cruise ports. Add the hotel industry . . . . . and the amount of lost revenue will boggle your mind. I know the CDC advises an avoidance of non-essential travel, and the cruise lines have taken that advice by altering all Mexican ports with other ports. But, do we take things too far?Should there be a restriction for travel to Chicago? . . . . . . . New York? . . . . . . Or Southern California? Should we not go to a subway, airport or movie theatre? Will you be going to a Mexican restaurant for Cinco de Mayo?Look at the map againCertainly, we can do all of these things. Are we a society of news media influence? I think so. One person returns from Mexico with the sniffles . . . . and the news media is running over people to get their cameras close. In four days the media may have that Kansas City sniffle closing schools in Dubuque. Information is a great thing to have, but we should have this information from all sides. Instead, we have sensationalized news . . . . . . it is far more interesting . . . . . . and we can’t get enough of it.I should stop my thoughts on media influence before channel 3 sends a crew out here to see if my eyes are red.Anyways . . . . . in most all of those reasons listed above, cancellations were processed . . . . . . and the cruise continued on (safely) without them . . . . . guests would tell us afterwards, of their disappointment for giving up a vacation for fear of being hurt . . . . . . . . and then realizing that these and many other fears are found in their own neighborhoods. So enjoy Cinco de Maya . . . . . visit Chicago . . . . . or take your vacation . . . . . and follow a few suggestions from the CDC. Avoid touching high touch surfaces such as railings, elevator buttons and grocery cart handles . . . . . use hand sanitizer . . . . . wash your hands and face frequently . . . . . cover your mouth and nose with tissues when coughing and sneezing . . . . and avoid people which show signs of being sick.
