Beyond the horizon

Whether we look out to sea from the shore . . . . . . . . . . across the valley from the mountain top . . . . . . . . . . or from the deck of a ship back to land . . . . . . . . . . . . we always wonder. What lies beyond the horizon? From what distant lands does that ship come from? Where are they heading? Does the ship carry passengers enjoying a poolside drink . . . . . . or maybe the ship is a freighter laden down with cargo? Could this ship be filled with people who will tell of exotic stories . . . . . . or does it simply hold my next set of bedroom furniture? How long has she been to sea and where is her next port? We can only imagine what lies beyond the horizon. From a mountain top, you may wonder . . . . . what lies across the valley? You see a few plumes of smoke rising above the treetops in the morning fog. Could this be a fishing village? Maybe campsites where the morning coffee is brewing over an open flame? Or is it simply one of the many small towns just wakening to a new morning? We imagine to ourselves . . . . . . what lies beyond the horizon. What about from the deck of a ship looking towards land . . . . . off in the distance? 20 or 30 miles out to sea . . . . . . . . . maybe more. What are those twinkling lights which you see? Family’s sitting to dinner? Young couples driving down a coastal highway on their first date? Maybe a clam bake on the beach? Are these people looking out to sea and wondering the same of you? Wondering . . . . . . . what lies beyond their horizon. We are forever watching the horizon. The closer we get . . . . . . . . . . . . . as if we were adjusting a pair of binoculars . . . . . . . . . . people and places become more into focus. Like life itself, as we look to our own horizon . . . . . . we can be certain of one thing. We will always wonder . . . . . . what lies beyond the horizon?TICK . . . . TICK . . . . TICK . . . .

TICK . . . . . . TICK . . . . . . TICK . . . . . . . . . the following takes place between 8:16 and 8:48 on Tuesday morning.
If you are a fan of Jack Bauer . . . (and how can you not be) . . . . then you know what I mean. 24 is back . . . . . and this season . . . . day . . . . . year already has more twists than a Carnival water slide . . . . . more drama than a 2 year old in a Disney swimming pool . . . . . . and more excitement than a woman in a bikini on a Royal Caribbean wave rider. You need to pay attention . . . . . closely . . . . . to every minute.8:21:08 . . 8:21:09 . . 8:21:10 . . 8:21:11This year has it all. Not even Bond - - James Bond comes close. We have a double agent that doubles back to be a reverse double agent. We have an F.B.I. agent who . . . . . by all appearances . . . . is a quick study of the Jack Bauer school of interrogation . . . . and, of course, we have Jack himself fighting justice in the American way. Sorry – wrong superhero. But I am most anxious to watch how the Chloe vs. Chloe (Janis) cyber geek battle plays out. Keystroke by keystroke . . . . . snarl to snarl . . . . . . and snide comments being thrown around as if they were a tossed salad. My bet is on the real Chloe . . . . . . . as she snears at me to be certain I have made the correct choice.8:36:16 . . 8:36:17 . . 8:36:18 . . 8:36:19You never know how things are going to play out in a Jack Bauer saga . . . . . but, as certain as the sun rising over a Caribbean cruise . . . . . . . it will be 24 hours of popcorn popping . . . . edge of your seat . . . . . waiting for the next episode . . . . . rollercoaster ride that will have you wishing for more and anxiously awaiting the next year . . . . . day . . . . . season. And . . . . of course . . . . . . Jack will save the day and be hailed by Madam President as a hero, which will then have all of Jack’s charges dismissed at the Senate hearings. All in a days work. But, wait . . . . . . . who will clear the President after we find out how her son was involved in today’s events? Which top aide is working with the terrorists? Is Henry really her husband? What role will the First Gentleman’s secret service agent take? Will Jack and agent Walker hook up and form their own elite agency? Stay tuned.8:47:58 . . 8:47:59 . . 8:48:00 . . . . . TICK . . . . . TICK . . . . . .
